Waiver Wire: Post Draft additions for Week 1 – By Tyler Belawske

Now that your draft is over and the NFL is back on our screens, it is time to double check your fantasy roster and see who got cut or injured from the past few weeks. Happen to have a guy or two like that? Well let us help you replace them with a few week 1 waiver wire additions.

Alfred Morris, Running Back – San Fransico 49ers

Jerick McKinnon is out for the season with a torn ACL. Morris joined the team mid-preseason and despite having a few early issues with the playbook, the seasoned vet won’t take long to settle in. Having worked with Head Coach Kyle Shanahan in Washington, the playbook shouldn’t be too dissimilar to what he’s played with before.

Morris (29) is a little older than his main competitor for the starting role, Matt Breida (23). However, he is nursing an injury that has the potential to hang around all season, but that isn’t going to stop Morris from being the go-to back in San Fran. Morris is an experienced veteran who will be able to get the job done in that new look offense that is being run by their newly acquired quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo.

The passing game will free up the running lanes, allowing Morris to get you those oh so valuable fantasy points. It would be fair to say that you might not start Morris at this point of the season you, but he will be a good bye week filler and a solid flex. Do not pass on picking him up this week.

Cordarelle Patterson, Wide Receiver – New England Patriots

He may have bounced around the league the past few years, and he may not be the sexiest pick at wide receiver. But Cordarelle Patterson is the second option at wide receiver in New England.

And what does New England have? A quarterback by the name of Tom Brady, a five-time Super Bowl winner who can, and will get him the ball. Tom Brady has thrown Patterson 5 TDs in three preseason weeks.

With Julian Edelman serving a four-game suspension,  he can use this time as an audition to prove to the Patriots that he has a place on the most anticipated roster in football. Don’t hesitate to grab Patterson before it’s too late as Week 1 could prove to be a breakout game for the former Viking.

Detroit Lions D/ST

The Lions play the New York Jets in Detroit in week one. I think that should say it all. The Jets are coming into week one with a rookie quarterback Sam Darnold making his first career start and a running game that is still up in the air, without a clear number one running back.

The Lions defense was upgraded with free agents rookies from this year’s draft. But the biggest improvement for their defense comes in the shape of their new head coach, Matt Patricia. He joined in the offseason from the New England Patriots with a track record of producing stellar defenses.
